Preconception and Fertility Counseling

Private Midwifery Services

Enjoy prenatal care in the comfort of your own home with your private midwife, Erin Gilbert, CNM. Your routine pregnancy visits will be conducted in home and Erin will follow your care through to the delivery of your baby at Broward Health Medical Center. Your private midwifery package includes 24/7 access to your midwife, in home visits and lab draws, a complimentary IV therapy session during a visit of your choice, discounted functional medicine labs if indicated, and a postpartum visit within 2 weeks of delivery. VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and waterbirth are supported methods of delivery. Erin has partnered with Dr Delisa Skeete-Henry who will be available in the rare event that surgical intervention is needed. She has been working with Dr Skeete’s practice (Serene Health OBGYN & Wellness) as a midwife since 2016 but has known her since 2012 when Dr Skeete delivered Erin’s own VBAC waterbirth baby.

Postpartum Care
Postpartum is a very special time for the whole family. However, some women may experience difficulty with breastfeeding, sleep deprivation, postpartum depression and anxiety, or difficulty losing weight after baby.
Schedule a Functional Medicine Consult to learn which underlying health imbalances may be contributing to these problems and point you in the right direction for supportive care such as pelvic floor therapy, sleep training, postpartum doulas, nutritional changes and counseling. Early intervention when these difficulties arise will help to reduce the need for medication and the progression to chronic health conditions.
Fees & Insurance
Functional Medicine services are generally not covered by Insurance, and our office does not bill your insurance directly. However, we will provide a receipt and superbill that you can send to your insurance carrier. If reimbursed, the payment will be sent directly to you.

A pregnancy story
I walked into a patient exam room one morning and the tears that she was trying desperately to hold back began to flow. This was a patient that I had known for years; a woman who lights up the room with her vibrant spirit. To see her in this state was heartbreaking. She had stopped breastfeeding her second child a few months prior and was ready to start planning for her 3rd baby. However her cycle had not yet returned and she didn’t feel like herself; she was exhausted, overly emotional, and felt “off”. I ordered labs and learned that her ovaries were nonfunctioning. Her hormones were at menopausal levels at age 30.
A traditional approach to her unusual labs and emotional state may have offered an antidepressant prescription, hormonal birth control and referral to endocrinology. However functional medicine trained providers will further investigate to try to find the root cause of the ovarian failure and strive to bring the body and mind back to optimal health. I suggested functional testing which led to the discovery of micronutrient deficiencies, gut dysfunction and mold toxicity. As it turns out a recent home had flooded, and was condemned due to mold contamination forcing her to move.
After a full year of dedication to her health and tweaking protocols she was able to detox her body of mold, recondition her gut and optimize her micronutrients. Her ovaries returned to normal functioning levels, and she achieved a healthy pregnancy on her own without the need for IVF. After carrying the baby to term she had a beautiful unmedicated waterbirth exactly the way she had imagined and I was honored to be the one to catch her baby. She continues to incorporate healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits into her daily regimen reporting good mental health and a regular menstrual cycle.
